When it comes to reporting video game news, after a while youre no longer surprised by new announcements. It comes with the territory you notice trends in the market and come to expect things, like todays announcement that Assassins Creed 3 is a thing, or that most PC ports or poorly optimized. But every so often, you get an announcement that comes out of left field and completely blindsides you.

Example: NCSoft and ArenaNet have announced that Guild Wars 2 is coming to consoles.

The Ragdoll Blaster series from Backflip Studios has always had simple and fun physics puzzle gameplay. It can also be used as a fairly accurate barometer to measure Backflip’s progress as a studio. Each proceeding sequel is leaps and bounds better than what came before, with more diverse mechanics, better production values, and stronger design.

Microsoft suspects ex-antivirus worker of Kelihos botnet creation

Microsoft has continued its assault on the Kelihos botnet, naming a former IT security professional as the controller of the malicious network.

An amended complaint US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Microsoft alleged that Russian Andrey Sabelnikov was running the botnet.

In the complaint, Microsoft said Sabelnikov was working on a freelance basis for a software development and consulting firm, and had previously been a project manager at an anti-virus provider.

Thousands of computers are still infected with its malware.

The Kelihos botnet was shut down last year, but Microsoft has continued to hunt for the perpetrators and have them prosecuted.

Microsoft had previously accused Dominique Piatti, a Czech man running the dotFREE domain hosting company, claiming his business was registering subdomains used to operate Kelihos.

Protest exposes Silicon Valley-Hollywood rivalry

In a move that heightens the growing tension between Silicon Valley and Hollywood, Wikipedia and other websites went dark Wednesday in protest of two congressional proposals intended to thwart the online piracy of copyrighted movies and TV programs.

The web-based encyclopedia is part of a loose coalition of dot-coms and large technology companies that fear Congress is prepared to side with Hollywood and enact extreme measures — possibly including the blocking of entire websites— to stop the online sharing and unauthorized use of Hollywood productions.

The fight will test which California-based industry has the most sway in Washington.

For now, Silicon Valley appears to have the upper hand. Sup
